Boiler Up! Michael got his start in science working in labs at Purdue University over the summer as a high school student. Michael eventually received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Purdue as well.
Michael earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, While there, he designed and utilized O2-controllable hydrogels to reconstruct the vascular regenerative microenvironment and study the effects of hypoxia on vascular network assembly. Michael received the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Predoctoral F31 Fellowship to support this work
Michael is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the lab of Dr. Kristi Anseth in the Chemical and Biological Engineering Department in the BioFrontiers Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder. He uses 4D biomaterials and advanced imaging techniques to understand and control intestinal organoid morphogenesis.
In his free time Michael enjoys hiking, biking, and beating his friends at boardgames.
