Ph.D, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, 2017
Advisor- Dr. Sharon Gerecht
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Postdoctoral Fellow
Advisor-Dr. Sangeeta Bhatia
Quinton’s love for science began as a child, participating in summer STEM programs and competing (and winning) national science fairs.
As a graduate student under the guidance of Dr. Sharon Gerecht, Quinton implemented various engineering tools to explore the roles of physical and chemical cues on stem cell lineage specification and downstream maturation. To support this work Quinton received a National Institutes of Health Pre-doctoral F31 Fellowship.
In his postdoctoral fellowship, Quinton investigated microfluidic models of biliary morphogenesis as well as novel 3D culture platforms to generate liver-derived organoid tissue as a platform to study regeneration. Quinton is the recipient of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Hannah Gray Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Dr. Smith is currently an assistant professor at the University of California Irvine, in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and started his group in April 2021.
